British showjumper Ben Talbot will be taking a break from showjumping following his behaviour at an German showjumping event last week. His horse Everglade had a refusal on a big oxer and he punsihed the horse with his whip. He was then excluded from the competiton and received a yellow card for his behaviour.
Yesterday Talbot reacted: I reacted out of anger, it should never have happend. I really care a lot about my horses and they will always come in first place. I understand that my behaviour is wrong, right now we are awaiting the consequences."
Those seem to have arrived with several death treats to Talbot after the competition. The owners of Everglade (by Clinton I) decided to remove the horse from Talbot's stables. Talbot reacts to Horse and Hound with the following statement: I will temporarely take a break from showjumping. This could be for half a year, a year of maybe forever.
The rider has closed his facebook following the severe death treats he was receiving.
