Dutch jump to glory in NAtions Cup finals Barcelona

Some technical issues with the lighting caused a huge delay in the start of the final round of the FEI Nations Cup finals in Barcelona. Eventually a bit before 11.00pm local time the first horse-rider combination entered the arena. Werner Muff and his 9-year-old KWPN-gelding, Daimler (by Canturano) set the pase with a clear round. The Orange team produced a regular effort claiming the eventual victory. The Dutch showjumping team won with only one overall time penalty. Both Jur Vrieling and VDL Glasgow v. Merelsnest (by Nabab de Reve) and Harrie Smolders (Don VHP Z, by Diamant de Semilly) produced a clear round. Michel Hendrix kept the wood untouched but jumped together one time penalty aboard Baileys (by Indoctro). The reigning Dutch Show Jumping Champion, Marc Houtzager made one jumping fault and produced the eliminated result. In the end the Silver and Bronze medal was fought out between Belgium and the USA. For the USA both Lauren Hough (Ohlala, by Orlando) and McLain Ward (HH Azur, by Thunder v. Zuuthoeve) finished clear. The Belgium squad counted on Jerome Guery (Grand Cru van de Rozenberg, by Malito de Reve) and Gregory Wathelet with Coree (by Cornet Obolensky). Eventually team USA placed second while the Belgian show jumping devils completed the stage.   Click here for the results
