The CHI Geneva will no longer host a World Cup qualifier. A remarkable decision as the organization always provided a world cup event since its creation between 1970 and 1980. The reason of this decision is the loyalty towards the main sponsor of the showjumping event in Geneva, Rolex. As the World Cup's main sponsor in 2013/2014 will be Longines the organization decided to drop the World Cup competition. In a note Alban Poudret states that it is more important to stay faithful to the main sponsor, who has helped CHI Geneva over the past 17 years, then choosing a pick for the World Cup event. However the FEI also needed to be consulted to ensure the existing and running contracts.
In the future the CHI Geneva will be a part of the Rolex Grand Slam of Showjumping, together with Aachen and Spruce Meadows. Further the Top 10 will also continue to be host in Geneva. To conclude Poudret stated that everything will stay the same except the World Cup Qualifier.
