Gregory Wathelet is looking forward to Jumping Antwerpen

Gregory Wathelet was last year’s best Belgian rider during Jumping Antwerpen. he was able to count on his to GP horses at the time, Quasi Modo Z (v. Querlybet Hero) en Lilly Lordanos (v. Lordanos) in the CSI5* and was able to obtain some great results with them. Equnews called Wathelet to interview him about his victories the past few years and to find out why Gregory likes to come to Jumping Antwerp What brings you to Jumping Antwerpen, year after year ? Jumping Antwerpen is a big show with a great eye for details and finishing touches. The organization and the team are incredible and I always have a great time, riding in Antwerp. Antwerp is improving year after year, and I love to be a part of this. Kom je dit jaar ook naar Antwerpen ? Yeah, for sure! I’m not sure yet which horses I will take with me this year, but I always like to be present at this CSI5* event. The past few years was always very good, so I’m convinced this year it will be a nice show as well This year there is no Global Champions Tour anymore during Jumping Antwerpen. Do you think there will be a lot of changes now the GCT is no longer part of the program? I have no idea. I do think some riders will not be present, because of the fact that they follow the GCT competitions, but what concerns the show itself I don’t think there will be a lot of changes.  Most riders come for the great environment, the nice arena’s  and the organisation that’s always great. After all, the pricemoney is still high and it will always be one of the nicest CSI5* competitions in Belgium Would you like to ride the CSI5* Jumping Clash Challenge or do you prefer riding the GP of CSI5* competition ? I would love to ride both. I’m very curious about the concept of the Jumping Clash and I would love to ride it. On the other hand I would really like to ride the GP as well. It will depend on the horses I’m taking so we will see. What are your best memories of Jumping Antwerpen? My victory in the CSI5* Speed and Handiness 1m45 with Quasi Modo Z is for sure on the list. This was an amazing moment to finish te weekend. Also I became second that exact same weekend with my other horse Lilly Lordanus so I was very happy with the results. I look back at this weekend with a big smile. Also my victory in the ranking CSI5* 1m45 class against the clock in 2014 with Papillon was a very beautiful moment in my carreer.
