In an official message Gregory Wathelet has announced the parting of his majestic BWP-gelding, Forlap. Forlap recently got injured after breaking his front leg. In the last weeks the gelding experienced some complications in his recovery proces and Wathelet and the team had to decide to let him go.
The official message states:
You were and will always remain an exception for all those who had the chance to meet you...
You arrived in my life in your early 7th year. Despite a strong character and temperament, you directly became someone very special to me. Be it by your attitudes who make that one can only become very attached to you, or by your very early sport results with your victory at the Belgian championship of he 7 year old horses.
You then offered me (you were only 8) the title of senior Belgian Champion, and still at the same age, you already won a GP5* in La Corunna. At the beginning of you 9 years, you imposed yourself as the new future star with your 2nd place in the GP5* in Doha, 5th in the GP CSIO of Lummen and above all you 2 double clear rounds in the nations cup in Lummen and La Baule!
That was enough for us to be unable to keep you! It already tore me appart then to see you go at the age of 9.
My dream had always been to for you to come back home until the day it became a reality when Judith decided to make me this gift for which I will never be thankful enough.
I then thought that you were back for the rest of your life and for many long years. It was without counting with this stroke of faith that decided otherwise. 1 year, day for day, after you arrived, and already with all those positive results, among which this wonderful World Cup final in Omaha, destiny decided to put a premature end to it all.
After this accident, the whole team did everything in its power to save you so that you could enjoy a beautiful anticipated retirement, while you were showing again all your strength of character and incredible intelligence to overcome this situation and repair the fracture, the last 2 weeks were more difficult for you with several complications, but again you fought like never before, but unfortunately you couldn’t win this last battle. Destiny decided otherwise, and with immense sadness we had to make the decision to let you go and so put an end to your suffering in this last battle that was simply lost in advance. Maybe it simply had to be that way!
Today I’m so sad and sick of you departure that I still have to realize that you will no longer be there. I have the impression I lost my best friend, or even a family member!
A lot of people will miss you here at the stables and even outside. But for me you will always be there somewhere in my heart and thoughts.
I wish you all the best in your next life... Thank you for everything you gave me. Forlap, I really love you a lot... I already miss you so much
