The first five start show jumping event has started with a British victory. Traditionally the new year starts with a super CSI 5* in Basel. The international battle started with a 1.40m class were Laura Renwick and the 11-year-old REmbrandt Blue jumped to victory after a clear round in 51.76 seconds. No less than 21 combinations finished clear in this class. REncwick proved to be 1 second faster as speed devil, Abelkebir Ouaddar and the 14-year-old Cordano Sitte Z. The pair was in the lead for a long time but eventually had to give the first place to Renwick. Third spot was for Martin Fuchs and Uzo van het Hobos Z (by Up to Date Miltoo) who finished in 53.01 seconds. The top five of the class was completed by Glaudia Gisler (Touchable) and John Whitaker (Echo of Light) in fourth and fifth place. After the 1.45m class brought an Italian victory. Aboard the 13-year-old Cornet Obolensky sire Cocoshynsky, Emmanuele Gaudiono speeded to victory and was followed by Kevin Staut and Ayade de Septon Et Hdc (by Wandor vd Mispelaere). Again Laura Renwick secured a place on stage. Aboard Heliodor Hybris (by Diamant De Semilly) she finished third.
