Leopold van Asten speeds to victory in Verona

A total of 12 combinations qualified for the jump-off in today's 1.55m Longines Ranking class at the World Cup competition in Verona. First at the start was Belgium's Niels Bruynseels. Bruynseels won the Rolex Grand Slam in 's Hertogenbosch at the beginning of this year, as well as the CSI5* Grand Prix in Knokke. Aboard the 9-year-old sBs-gelding, Delux van T&L (Toulon), Bruynseels jumped one rail down in a fast chrono of 36.34 seconds. Kevin Staut followed with a clear round in the saddle of Viking d'la Rousserie (Quincy). Also Harrie Smolders produced a clear round aboard the 14-year-old Don VHP Z NOP (Diamant de Semilly). Daniel Deusser was the first to beat Bruynseels' time. Earlier today Deusser impressed in Verona's 1.45m ranking class. This time Deusser crossed the finish about one second faster as Bruynseels, keeping it clear in the saddle of the Tangelo vd Zuuthoeve-son, Tobago.
