In the first round of the big finale of the Furusiyya Nations Cup, only two countries managed to keep the zero on the scoreboard. The team British consisted of Olympic champion Nick Skelton (Big Star), Michael Whitaker (Viking), Jessica Mendoza (Spirit T) and Scott Brash (Ursula XII). Skelton, Whitaker and Brash jumped three beautiful clear rounds. Jessica Mendoza got 12 points, but her result was cancelled, leaving the team with zero points. The Spanish public got to enjoy three German clear rounds as well. Ahlmann (Taboulet Z), Meyer (Goja 27) and Beerbaum (Casello) all managed to clear the course. Ehning and Pret A Tout got 4 points, but they're result was cancelled. This means the German team finished the first round with zero faults as well. A jump-off also had to decide who was crowned as winner. Great-Britain and Germany both had to choose one rider to ride the jump-off. Both teams had to put their faith in the hands of only one rider. Great-Britain chose for the Olympic champion Nick Skelton. He and Big Star entered the ring and rode a very fast jump-off. The Olympic champions crossed the finish line in 41,57 seconds. When Marcus Ehning entered the ring for Germany, he knew what he had to do... Ride a clear jump-off and ride it faster than Skelton did. And so he did! Ehning and Pret a Tout (Hiram Chambertin) finished in 39,80 seconds, leading Germany to the victory. The American team finished on third place. The team, consisting of all lady riders, got four faults in total. Kraut (Zeremonie) and Keenan (Super Sox) rode a clear rounds, Hough (Ohlala) hit one fence and Coulter (Capital Colnardo) got two jumping penalties. Her result was cancelled.
