On the Road to Vegas.... Carlo 273

Today for our 'On the road to Vegas' series we will focus on Carlo 273, the 14 year old gelding competed by Spain's Sergio Alvarez Moya.

  • Name : Carlo 273 (HOLST)
  • Rider : Sergio Alvarez Moya (SPA)
  • Age : 14
  • Breeding : Contender x Cascavelle
  • Owner : Marta Ortega
  • Percentage of clears this Winter : 40 %
  • Major Achievement : Individual and team bronze medallist at the 2011 European Championships
Latest Results : The now 14 year old gelding shot to fame with Nick Skelton when they won Team and Individual bronze at the 2011 European Championships in Madrid. The gelding soon caught the eye of Sergio Alvarez Moya and his wife Marta Ortega, who then bought the horse. The new pair starting producing fantastic results right away and have never looked back. Last year Carlo and Moya started their indoor season after Carlo had a three month break. They started with a sixth place finish in the Grand Prix in Madrid before moving on to La Coruna and London, where they had four faults on each occasion. A month later Carlo 273 had 8 faults in the Leipzig World Cup before going on to win the World Cup in Zurich a week later. In Bordeaux, the pair finished in eleventh place with eight faults after going clear in the first round. Unfortunately in s'Hertogenbosch, which Moya used as a final preparation for Las Vegas, things did not go quite to plan in the Grand Prix and they retired early on in the course. Statistics : In terms of his results, out of ten 1.60m courses, Carlo went clear four times. Based on a good Winter season and good results achieved in the last few years, one can hope that they will have a great result in Las Vegas. Photo : Carlo 273 and Moya in La Baule - Equnews.fr
