Rome Gladiators triumph at GCL Madrid

This weekend, the beautiful city of Madrid hosted the GCT and the GCL. This evening, the game was on for the Global Champions League. Twelve teams of two riders started in this competition. After the first round, the best 8 teams started again in the second round. The overall total of faults and time decided who would be the winner. It were the ladies who ruled the show: the Rome Gladiators with Laura Kraut and Laura Renwick won todays competition. Laura Kraut rode a clear first round with Confu (Contact Me), in the second round they hit a fence which resulted in 4 faults. Laura Renwick jumped clear in the first round and she knew what she had to do to win the competition: jump a clear second round. And that's what she did, she and her gelding Bintang II (Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve) left the wood untouched. Both ladies jumped very fast rounds to make sure they had the fastest time. Second place was for the Cannes Stars. The team members of this week were Marco Kutscher and Roger Yves Bost. Marco Kutscher saddled Clenur (Carinue). This combination jumped a clear first round, but in the second round they got one time penalty. Roger-Yves Bost and Sunshine du Phare jumped a clear first round as well. Bostie knew what he had to do: jump a clear, fast second round. If he did, the Cannes Stars would win the competition. Unfortunately, luck wasn't on his side today. Sunshine du Phare hit one fence which resulted in one jumping penalty. The Antwerp Diamonds, who won the Global Champions League in Antwerp, finished on third place today. Both Harrie Smolders and Aiyetoro (Concorde) and Audrey Coulter and Alex (Arpeggio) jumped a clear first round. Unfortunately, both combinations got a jumping fault in the second round. The leaders of the overall ranking, Valkenswaard United, had an off-day. John Whitaker and Lord of Arabia hit one fence and got one time penalty in the first round. Bertram Allen and Quiet Easy 4 got 4 faults as well. Because of this, they couldn't start in the second round anymore. They stay in the lead of the overall ranking. Click here for the results
