Swiss team takes Gold at EC in Spain

EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP CH J YR 2013Switzerland took home the team gold medals at the European Championships for juniors and young riders yesterday. In the children team competition it was the French that claimed the gold in Vejer de la Frontera. The Swiss young riders were on fire yesterday, and Martin Fuchs contributed big time to the win riding a clear round on PSG Future also climbing to second position on the individual standings ahead of the final on Sunday. Emilie Stampfli on Alessa Z; Annina Züger on Liatos II and Chantal Müller on Tabasca were the other three riders on the Swiss team - the latter two also riding clear rounds and putting Switzerland on an eight penalty score that were carried forward from the first part of the team competition.   The Dutch team claimed silver. Frank Schuttert and Winchester HS were best on the team, again being without faults. Stefanie Van Den Brink on Wapper and Sjaak Sleiderink on Zhivago both rode clear rounds for their team as well so Dennis Van Den Brink's four faults with Royal Dream could be discharged putting them on a final score of twelve penalties brought forwards from the first part of the team competition. Belgium got the bronze with a team consisting Quinten Bradt on Green Sleeps Orage; Gilles Detry on Catwalk Capone; Eleonore Lamilliote on Alaska and Valerie Van de Poel on Wernsen.   Click here for full results.   On the individual young rider standings Holland's Frank Schuttert is in the lead with 1,56 points, followed by Swiss rider Martin Fuchs with 3,22. Clear rounds from Di Gallo and Wettstein, and just four penalties for Meier and Du Couëdic put the Swiss team ahead on a total of eight penalties after the two rounds of competition were completed.   The British team claimed the silver medal. Jessica Mendoza with Spirit, Jake Saywell with Farinelli Van de Zesh, Laura Robinson with Cree Cruiser and Emma O’Dwyer with Miss Tonic rode on the team that ended on a twelve penalty score after the two rounds.
