Only Ward McLain and the 13-years-old HH Carlos Z (Chellano Z x Voltaire) did better, claiming the victory. Third spot was for Jack Hardin Towell Jr. and Lucifer V. The top five was completed by another USA-combination and Belgium. Beezie Madden (Breitling LS) made it fourth, followed by Pieter Devos aboard Equipharma Dax van d Abdijhoeve. A total of 18 riders classified for the jump-off, only 11 finished clear in their second round. Later the 1.60m FEI class was scheduled. Again it were the United States of America who coloured the victory. This time it was Kent Farrington and the 14-years-old Uceko (Celano x Koriander) who rode to victory. Two French pair followed to complete the stage. 'Bosty' and Quo'd Cour de la Loge (by Ideal de la Loge) made it as runner-up while compatriot Kevin Staut (Elki vh Indihof HDC) finished third. With 17 pairs in the jump-off only 7 finished faultless. The top five in this class was completed by USA's Richard Spooner (Cristallo) and Switzerland's Alain Jufer (Radja Dartemis). With his time of 38.62 seconds, Farrington was only about 0.3 seconds faster to claim the over $28,000 win.
