The countdown to the start of the World Cup Jumping in Amsterdam is on. Ahead of the main event, a challenging 1.50m course was set for the CSI5* combinations. Together with his old faithful, Gentlemen vh Veldhof, Robert Whitaker proved that age is just a number when it comes to winning!
Nine combinations qualified for the jump-off of the 1.50m Harry Wouters van den Oudenweijer Prize. In Amsterdam, Robert Whitaker managed to spoil the Dutch party at the very last moment. Paired with the 20-year-old Gentleman vh Veldhof (Quite Easy, breeders: Bekaert-Naudts), Whitaker finished approximately one second faster than Leopold Van Asten and the 11-year-old KWPN mare, VDL Groep Kwienbellie (Toulon).
Third place went to Swiss rider Barbara Schnieper and the 13-year-old mare, Canice (Cascadello). Only this top three managed to complete the jump-off without any faults.
Thibeau Spits secured the best Belgian result. Aboard his home-bred Zangersheide mare, Cloverly DH Z (Comme Il Faut), Spits finished just off the podium. Former Amsterdam Grand Prix winner Frank Schuttert followed in fifth place.
Schuttert rounded out the top five in the saddle of the 11-year-old Zangersheide gelding, Luckey Sr Z (L'Arc de Triomphe).
