In the Boccaccio Arena at the Arezzo Equestrian Centre, Portugal's Rodrigo Giesteira Almeida claimed victory in the 1.55m CSI4* Gold Tour Grand Prix this afternoon. In a thrilling jump-off featuring seven combinations, he outpaced French competition and a strong international field.
Only seven riders managed to keep a clean sheet in the initial round and qualify for the decisive jump-off. Rodrigo Giesteira Almeida entered the ring with the eleven-year-old KWPN mare Karonia.L (by Harley, breeder: Th. Lemmers). The duo displayed exceptional form, not only remaining clear but also stopping the clock at a lightning-fast 35.79 seconds.
Frenchman Nicolas Sers, riding Eleven de Riverland (by Kannan), made a brave attempt to beat the Portuguese rider's time. Although he managed to stay clear, his time of 36.21 seconds fell just short of the win, forcing him to settle for the second step on the podium.
Thomas Ryan secured third place. With the SBS gelding Jezebeau BC (by Thunder Vd Zuuthoeve), he opted for a slightly more conservative line in the jump-off, resulting in a clear round in 38.09 seconds. Fourth place went to Germany's Gerrit Nieberg and his mare Ib Queen (Quasimodo Z), who also went double clear.
For the remaining jump-off contenders, a jumping fault spoiled their chances. The top five was rounded out by Sara Brionne with Grand Duc du Paradiso (Vagabond de la Pomme).
