The Rolex US Equestrian Open Grand Prix, held during Wellington International – Rolex Finale Week, delivered a spectacular showcase of world-class sport, bringing together 40 of the world’s top riders for a thrilling 1.60m competition. Belgium’s Émilie Conter, riding Portobella van de Fruitkorf (Bamako de Muze x Nabab de Rêve), set the tone as the first to enter the arena, launching an evening of high intensity and precision.
As the class unfolded, the level quickly rose. Ben Maher, aboard Enjeu de Grisien (Toulon x Andiamo), produced the first clear round, soon followed by Jordan Coyle and Chaccolino. At the halfway point, only two combinations had managed to stay faultless, highlighting the technical demands of the course.
In total, five riders advanced to the jump-off: Ben Maher, Jordan Coyle, Kent Farrington with Greya (Colestus x Contender), Darragh Kenny aboard Eddy Blue (Eldorado Van De Zeshoek TN x Chacco-Blue), and Richard Vogel with Gangster Montdésir (Kannan GFE x Cornet Obolensky).
The jump-off delivered a thrilling finale. Ben Maher set the pace with a fast and flawless round, immediately raising the bar. Daniel Coyle, taking all risks, finished with four faults.
Then came Kent Farrington, who delivered an outstanding performance with exceptional speed, taking over the lead in commanding fashion. Last to go, Richard Vogel produced the fastest time of the class, but a rail at the final fence denied him victory.
In front of an electric crowd, it was Kent Farrington and Greya who emerged victorious, claiming a brilliant win in Wellington and marking a strong start to the 2026 Rolex Series season.
Farrington: "She's Athletic, intelligent and careful!"
"It's always great to win at home," Farrington says after his win. "Wellington has become an equestrian community. Tonight some of the best riders of the world took the start and this class should be about closing the Wellington season in style!"
About his mare Farrington is enthusiastic. "You do this sport for a long time, you meet good horses, athletic horses and sometimes exceptional horses. She's certainly my all -time-favorite horse!"
