Duarte Romao claimed victory in the consolation class for seven-year-old horses at the FEI WBFSH Jumping World Breeding Championship for Young Horses in Lanaken. In the saddle of Jalisca du Lirot, the Portuguese rider delivered the fastest clear round in the 1.40m class, stopping the clock at 58.63 seconds.
Romao and the seven-year-old mare, a daughter of Diamant de Semilly out of Nonstop, set the winning time in a competitive field of clear rounds. Thiago Ribas Da Costa came closest to the Portuguese combination with Sheriff v/d Hunters Z (Hunter's Scendix), finishing faultless in 59.78 seconds.
The Belgian flag was represented on the podium by Seppe Wouters, who guided Thia (Nixon van't Meulenhof) to third place. The pair also kept all the poles up and crossed the finish line in 60.03 seconds. Just behind them, Maria Hjorth Frederiksen finished fourth with Harmilly D (Harley) in 60.21 seconds.
The top five was completed by Dutch rider Monique van den Broek and Oslo (Poker de Mariposa). Their clear round took 60.47 seconds, leaving them fifth in the final standings.
