J>ur Vrieling (NED) and Helwell Du Chabus (Elvis ter Putte x Orlando) won Sunday's CSI4* 1.55m Grand Prix of Hessen presented by Deutschen Vermögensberatung AG (DVAG) in Frankfurt, Germany.
With the 11-year-old mare Helwell du Chabus, Vrieling delivered a clear in the jump-off in a time of 36.77, besting a field of 48 starters. Only Maximilian Weishaupt (GER) and the 13-year-old DSP Omerta Incipit 29 (Levisonn x Candillo) managed to deliver another clear, but with their time of 37.06 had to settle for second place.
The third place in the jump-off of four went to Teike Friedrichsen (GER) and Greece 5 (Mylord Carthago x Quinar). Crossing the finish line in 35.85, the 26-year-old was the fastest of them all, but a fence down left them third, while Gerrit Nieberg (GER) on Ping Pong van de Lentamel 2 (Emerald van het Ruytershof x Toulon) finished fourth.
"My horse jumped incredible," Vrieling said. "I have so far jumped five Grand Prix classes with her and she has always placed within the top five; that is impressive. This mare has an unbelievable mind; at home, she is the sweetest horse that there is. Even though I have not had her for so long, I already have a great bond with her – and I think that is necessary."
