The second class of the day at CHI Geneva, the CSI5* 1m45 Prix Swiss Wine Genève, brought a high class field of forty five combinations into the Palexpo arena for a demanding two phase track. With speed decisive over the second half of the course, small margins separated the leading riders, but in the end it was Germany’s Michael Jung who steered Fischer Duopower to the top of the leaderboard and secured the second five star win of the afternoon.
Riding the grey KWPN gelding Fischer Duopower (Namelus R.), Michael Jung secured the win in 47.28 seconds, followed by an explosive second phase of 25.98 seconds. Fellow German rider Hans-Dieter Dreher came closest to unseating his compatriot. In the saddle of the Holsteiner gelding Cous Cous 3 (Cachas), he clocked 40.93-second in the opening phase and maintained the momentum in Phase 2 with 27.18 seconds, staying on a clean sheet and confirming a strong early German presence in Geneva.
Ireland joined Germany on the podium courtesy of Cian O’Connor and Canbella Blue PS (Cantolar). The black Hanoverian mare showed her natural pace and carefulness, answering every question in both phases without touching a pole in 42.01 seconds over Phase 1, followed by 28.11 seconds in Phase 2. Their double clear left them just behind the two German combinations, good enough for third.
