In the Grand Prix of Avenches, an international four-star competition over 1.55 metres with a jump-off, the German and Swiss combinations took the podium. Gilles Thomas just missed out on the top three, but still managed to deliver the fastest round of the day.
Germany's Michael Viehweg won the competition with Contario (Contendro). He remained clear in the jump-off and clocked 40.62 seconds, which was good enough for the win. Switzerland's Thibaut Keller rode Happy Girl T (Sandro Boy) to silver after also completing two clear rounds; their jump-off time was 41.06.
Paul Bücheler and PB Loewenherz (Levisto) completed the podium with a clear round in 42.20.
Gilles Thomas and Chuck Marienshof Z (Colestus) provided the highlight for Belgium. Their 39.73 in the jump-off was the fastest time of the day, but a knockdown resulted in four penalty points and fourth place.
The top five was rounded off by Emanuele Camilli with Chacareno PS (Chacco-Blue), who finished in 41.61 seconds but had one fault in the jump-off.
