The Gothenburg Horse Show has appointed top German course designer Peter Schumacher to design the course for the 2027 show jumping World Cup final. The collaboration will start immediately, as Schumacher will also be responsible for the course designs during the 2026 edition of the GHS.
Schumacher, who designs around twenty international competitions each year, says he is honoured with his new position. ‘It is a tremendous honour to be able to build in Gothenburg, the place where the World Cup originated,’ he says. This year, the German designed the European Youth Championships and the tour in Oliva, among other things, and served as assistant course designer during CHIO Aachen.
As he will be starting in 2026, Schumacher will have the opportunity to get to know the characteristic oval arena thoroughly. ‘It is a special arena that is ideal for large, flowing courses, but at the same time, the lack of real corners presents a challenge,’ he explains. "I already have some sketches ready, but I especially want to be in the arena itself to refine the details. It is essential to see how horses and riders react to colours and lines. You have to be prepared to make adjustments during the competition days."
