The Championat City of Basel attracted a large audience to the halls in Switzerland. In this 1.55m CSI5* class, only four combinations qualified for the jump-off. Ultimately, no one could outperform Yuri Mansur with his trusted Vitiki (Valentino). For the combination it's a consecutive win of this class!
The first duo to start was Yuri Mansur and his 17-year-old Vitiki(Valentino). Together with the gelding bred by Stapel & Wahlers, the Brazilian rider put pressure on the competition with a faultless round in 36.01 seconds.
Harrie Smolders followed with the 10-year-old Kaspar R(Eldorado vd Zeshoek). Smolders debuted with the gelding (breeder: Rietberg) in November last year and continues to show strong form. The combination finished faultlessly in 36.60 seconds but could not surpass Mansur's performance.
Riding his homebred Primo DV (Vigo d'Arsouilles), Belgium's Pieter Devos was next to start. This pair also kept the poles up. They completed a safe round in 37.64 seconds.
The final rider to start was former Belgian champion Jos Verlooy. Together with the 15-year-old Jet run (Chacco-Blue), Verlooy was narrowly slower than his compatriot, finishing in an eventual fourth place.
With one fault in the initial round, Maikel van der Vleuten completed the top five. Van der Vleuten rode his 11-year-old BWP stallion O'Bailey vh Brouwershof N.O.P. (Darco, breeder: C.A.M. Van Den Oetelaar).
