Born in 1926, Melchior was one of the pions of today's equestrian show jumping community. When the Dutch entrepeneur founded the Zangersheide Studbook he brought a new level to the breeding and jumping sport. Studfarm Zangersheide is located at the similarly named domain in Lanaken (Belgium). That is where Léon Melchior first began with a showjumping stables at the beginning of the seventies, which later developed into a studfarm.  A few decades later, in 1992,  Studbook Zangersheide started. Zangersheide is the result of the initiatives of Léon Melchior, who turned the breeding of showjumping horses into his equestrian magnus opus. Leon Melchior was aged 88 years old. In an interview Leon Melchior stated ones ; "You have to want it badly and work for it. Don't let errors get in your way. The only enemy is time ... " Our sympathy is going out to the family and co-workers of this great man!
