In Eindhoven, a brilliant CSI3* weekend just ended with the Grand Prix of the CSI3* competition. In this Wim van der Leegte memorial, 55 combinations came to the start, six of them managed to finish the basic round without any faults. A jump-off of six therefore had to decide the winner. The Dutch threw everything into the fight to give the Eindhoven audience a Dutch victory and Mathijs van Asten succeeded at the last minute. He was the last to enter the ring and, on Sirocco (by Balou de Rouet), managed to beat the time of Rodrigo Giestreira Almeida, who had been in the lead until then. A clear round in 40.90 seconds thus earned Mathijs and the Dutch home crowd a nice home victory.
Due to van Asten's fast round, Giesteira Almeida had to make peace with second place. She 9-year-old Dialektro (by Diancontinus) did not come close to the wood and clocked off in 41.37 seconds. Remarkably, only the top two were able to jump a double clear round. Giempiero Garofalo became the fastest four-pointer in third place. He sent Gaspahr (by Berlin) to the finishing line in 41.43 seconds.
Gilles Thomas became the best Belgian in fourth place. He too was charged with one jumping fault with Elfra van Beek Z (by El Salvador). The duo finished in 42.83 seconds. The top five was completed by Henk van de Pol and B Captain Norman (by Bolero).
