Vrieling and Van der Vleuten secure fireworks in Derby of Dutch Masters

One of the highlights of the weekend was just jumped in Den Bosch: the indoor Derby of the CSI5* competition. Sixteen combinations ventured their chance in this challenge of stature, which produced spectacle with a Dutch winner in the end. Jur Vrieling, riding the KWPN-bred El Rocco (by VDL Zirocco Blue), was able to record a clear round behind his name in 81.64 seconds, more than enough to take home victory.

Second place also went to a Dutchman: Olympic medallist Maikel van der Vleuten saddled the BWP mare Kamara van't Heike (by Epleaser van't Heike) to jump a clear round in 84.01 seconds. This earned them the silver medal. Netherlands on gold and silver, so the home crowd certainly got value for money! Third place was for Denis Lynch. He got three penalty points behind his name. His GC Chopin's Bushi (by Contendro II) crossed the finish line after 81.58 seconds but three penalty seconds resulted in a time of 84.58 seconds.

The best Belgian AND best female rider was Gudrun Patteet. She rode Sea Coast Monalisa van't Paradijs (by Bamako de Muze) to the finish in 82 seconds but she too got three penalty seconds behind her name. Joseph Stockdale and Equine America Bingo du Chateau (by Quaprice Bois Margot) completed the top five.
