In Mechelen, the international CSI5* 1.45m speed class was decided on pace and tight lines. Koen Vereecke topped a top five made up exclusively of Belgian and Dutch names.
Koen Vereecke set the standard with the BWP mare Oilily de Muze (Vigo d’Arsouilles), producing a faultless round in 64.20 seconds to claim victory in the 1.45m class.
“My horse felt super today. As a Belgian, winning at Jumping Mechelen is always extra special,” Vereecke said afterwards.
Dutch rider Michael Greeve came closest with Rubens (Luganer). He was also clear, but had to settle for second in 64.53 seconds, just behind Vereecke.
Leonie Peeters kept Belgium firmly in the top three with the BWP mare Maquinn vd Heffinck (Quinn vd Heffinck), finishing without penalties in 65.70 seconds.
Wilm Vermeir followed in fourth with Jonkheer van’t Veldhoven (Cornet Obolensky) after a clear round in 67.75 seconds, while Leopold van Asten completed the top five for the Netherlands with VDL Groep Leopold (For Pleasure), also faultless, in 68.01 seconds.
