At the London International Horse Show this afternoon, the opening class in the London World Cup Driving was ridden. On the start list among some of the best drivers of the world, Boyd Excell also made his appearance again. So the competition was warned, and with good reason, as the Australian champion steered his four-in-hand to a flawless victory in the drive-off with a lead of over 12 seconds.
Besides Exell, the Netherlands was also strongly represented in the drive-off. Koos De Ronde and Bram Chardon threw everything at it to knock the Australian off the throne. Unfortunately, the risks taken resulted in some penalty seconds for both. De Ronde eventually won silver, 16 seconds ahead of his compatriot Chardon.
Chester Weber from the USA set the fourth time in the first round, placing just ahead of Belgian Dries Degrieck who followed in fifth.
