The jump-off of the final Grand Prix qualifier in Brussels had the audience on the edge of their seats! Daniel Deusser did what he did best and chased Steve Guerdat from his winning spot in Saturday's CSIO5* 1m50 Grand Prix Qualifier of Brussels, driving home in his brand new Audi A3.
Steve Guerdat took the lead, sending Is-Minka (Mylord Carthago) to the finish line in a lightning-fast time. The tone was immediately set, the bar was high. Several attempts were made to knock the Swiss off his throne, but many riders made mistakes. Harrie Smolders provided the second clear round with the BWP'er Mr. Tac (Non Stop) but finished almost a second later than Guerdat's time. After Vermeir, it was Daniel Deusser who posed the biggest danger as the penultimate rider. With his rider, the already 16-year-old Scuderia 1918 Tobago Z has enough experience to take the heat from anyone trying to beat them. No sooner said than done: Guerdat was beaten by a difference of 34 hundredths.
With the 9-year-old daughter of Midas vh Endhouse, bred by Marcel De Ridder, Vermeir opted for a safe ride. That approach earned him fourth place thanks to a clear result. At five came the young British promise, Robert Murphy on the KWPN mare Hulde G (Vigo d'Arsouilles). Jérôme Guery also got to compete in the jump-off for his own audience thanks to his sixth place with the sBs gelding Great Britain V, a descendant of Nabab de Reve.
