Eduardo Alvarez Aznar and Rokfeller de Pleville Bois Margot snatch the last golden ticket for the LGCT Super Grand Prix in Riyadh, winning the CSI5* 1m60 LGCT Grand Prix of Rabat, Morocco.
Denis Lynch (IRL) and Brooklyn Heights took a clear start and set the benchmark at a fast 39.47s.
Thibeau Spits (BEL) already started without pressure for the LGCT Super Grand Prix, for which the U25 rider already secured his place in Riesenbeck. Saddled with his Riesenbeck winner, Impress-K van't Kattenheye Z (Indoktro K van't Kattenheye), he was charged with a jumping fault and crossed the finish line with 40.03s on the clock. The 9-year-old Zangersheide stallion was the youngest of the field in the jump-off, in contrast to the next to start: Rokfeller de Pleville Bois Margot, a 19-year-old son of L'Arc de Triomphe.
In the saddle of the Selle Français was Eduardo Alvarez Aznar (ESP). The Spaniard rode a stunning round with a finishing time of 36.96s. He immediately rode a gallop pass less than Lynch in the first line and proved to have his eyes on the end goal. The big difference for them came mainly in the last part of the course.
Malin Baryard Johnson (SWE) started solidly in the saddle of the BWP mare H&M Indiana (Kashmir van Schuttershof) but lost some of her speed toward the end of her ride, halting their chrono at 37.44s.
Philipp Weishaupt (GER) was faster in the meantime but on the penultimate oxer, Coby 8 (Contagio) mishandled the distance a bit, sending the beam into the sand. Weishaupt crossed the finish line with 37.28s on the clock.
LGCT Champion Max Kühner (AUT) and Elektric Blue P, winners of St Tropez, had a slightly too sharp turn towards the LGCT steeple, where a jumping fault was recorded. Their time was the fastest so far though, with 36.45s on the clock.
With only Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann still at the start, Aznar was already sure of his spot in the Super Grand Prix, considering the German rider had already earned her starting spot earlier this season. On the Belgian-bred Messi van't Ruytershof (Plot Blue), Meyer-Zimmermann, who was part of the winning Cannes Stars team (powered by Iron Dames), stayed off the obstacles but a time of 38.10s meant bronze.
