On the last day of competition in A Coruña, the CSI3* 1.45m class was run this morning. The Spaniards took the lead in this Prosegur Security Trophy. It was Álvaro González De Zarate Fernandez who put down an impressive round with the 10-year-old mare Casa Diva PS (Casallco) and went clear in the fastest time of 60.79 seconds.
Eduardo Alvarez Aznar, an established name on the Spanish show jumping circuit, finished in second place. With the 9-year-old gelding Genaro Paulois (Aldo du plessis), he also rode clear, in a time of 62.60 seconds. Third place again went to Spain: Jesus Garmendia Echevarria and his 9-year-old stallion Caramel Blue PS (Carambole) managed a fast time of 64.42 seconds, although he had to take four penalties, which reduced his chances of a higher ranking.
Belgium's Thibault Philippaerts, finished fourth with 9-year-old Quilano (Arezzo). Despite four penalties, his time of 65.93 seconds remained competitive enough to finish just outside the podium. Abdel Saïd also made an excellent effort for Belgium. He rode the clear young mare Double Fancy Vdm Z to a handsome sixth place in 67.41 seconds. With two Belgian riders in the top six, the team showed they are in excellent form.
Spain was omnipresent in this class, with no fewer than four of the five top places held by Spanish riders. Iván Serrano Sáez clocked 67.26 seconds with the BWP horse Porsche 911 M (Nabab de Rêve) and stayed clear, which earned him fifth place and confirmed the Spanish preponderance in this competition.
