In Memoriam: Tornesch 1042

At the age of 24, the iconic jumping stallion Tornesch 1042 has passed away, as announced by H&M, sponsor of his longtime partner Malin Baryard-Johnsson.

Tornesch, a son of Lux Z and Libero H, was famous for his athletic performance, impressive character, and unique one-eyed appearance. He played a crucial role in the career of Baryard-Johnsson, who emphasized in her statement how special their bond was and how important he was in her sporting life.

“H&M Tornesch was a fantastic horse with an amazing personality and we really got close during our years together. So many great results and memories, he was one of a kind and has meant a lot for me and my career.”

Tornesch achieved numerous international successes with Baryard-Johnsson. Together they achieved top positions in prestigious events, such as Nations Cup victories in Falsterbo and Barcelona. He also excelled individually, with podium finishes in the World Cup competitions of Helsinki, Olympia, and in 's-Hertogenbosch. Despite eye surgery in 2013, which led to the loss of his right eye, Tornesch continued to perform at a high level.

After his retirement in 2016, Tornesch returned to his owners and was used for breeding both in Sweden and France. His legacy lives on in his offspring and in the memories of his greatness in show jumping.
