Abdelkebir Ouaddar takes first win at Al Shaqab

It was looking like a home win for Bassem Hassan Mohammed in the first class of the CSI5* in Al Shaqeb. During the 1.45 class the rider was on the top spot for a while. But in the end it were Henrik Eckermann en winner Abdelkebir Ouaddar that  overtook the Qatari rider. As third rider to go Mohammed and his Grey gelding Argelith Squid (Salito x Gibraltar) put a smashing time of 30.31 seconds on the clock. But in it was the Moroccan Quaddar who rose to the occasion with his Belgian bred Cordano Sitte Z (Carthago Z x Major de La Cour) in the two-phase special were 28 riders kept a double clear. Ouaddar cleared the course in 28.94 seconds staying ahead of Eckermann by half a second. The Swede had saddled his 10 year old stallion Chacano (Chacco-Blue x Kannan) and kept the clear in 29.41 seconds. The top 5 got completed by two Italians. Emanuele Gaudiano and hit faithful 11 year old stallion Caspar 232 (Berlin x Padarco 2) finished fourth after a speedy round in 30.52 seconds. And countryman Piergiorgio Bucci his Heartbreaker vd Achterhoek (Bentley van de Heffinck x Catango Z) folled a mere few hundreds of a seconds later to take fifth place.
