Fifty-nine pony riders from around the country came together at Northcote Stud in Langho, Blackburn to contest the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Second Round and it was 15 year-old Billy Luther who took home the win. With only two Horse of the Year Show tickets on offer for this October’s Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Championship Final, it came down to just ten combinations to fight it out against the clock in the final jump off. Billy Luther from East Boldon, Tyne & Wear rode three consistently quick and clear rounds on board William Luther’s 14 year-old cremello gelding, Crème de La Crème. In the final jump off this pair made light work of the questions asked by Gill Pollard’s course to leave all the fences standing in a truly unbeatable time of 36.06 seconds. Securing second place was 15 year-old Robyn Woodward riding Rudgeway Maestro, an 11 year-old grey gelding owned by Robert Woodward. This combination crossed the finish line on a confident treble clear in 38.94 seconds. The riders and ponies that finished in third to fifth took home the chance to compete in the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Masters at the British Showjumping National Championships.
