In Mechelen, one of the 5* classes has just been ridden. This class was the Sires of the World Class, a class of stallions only. In the jump-off the last fence seemed to be the biggest difficulty. Gilles Thomas, a young home rider, was the first rider to enter the ring for the jump-off. He managed to keep the zero on the scoreboard until the last fence. His grey stallion Catario (f. Casiro) hesitated a bit, resulting in a fault on the last fence. The first place was for Daniel Deusser. With the 9-year old Tobago Z (f. Tangelo vd Zuuthoeve) under the saddle, he jumped a clear round in 34,85 seconds. No other combination managed to equal the time of Daniel Deusser. The second place went to the Belgian lady rider Rachel Steffen. She rode the 12-year old Canturo son Uncanto di Villagna to the silver medal in 38,45 seconds. Damien Haelterman and Hooligan de Laubry (f. Clinton I) completed to podium. The young British rider Jack Whitaker took account of the fourth place with Valmy de la Lande (f. Mylord Carthago). Gregory Wathelet and the 9-year old MJT Nevados S (f. Calvados Z) completed the top five.
