For the own spectators it was Patrice Delaveau who took home the Grand Prix in La Baule. Aboard his Orient Express (Quick Star x Le Tot de Semilly) Delaveau was followed by Frank Schuttert and Winchester H S (Numero Uno x Nimmerdor). The British legend Nick Skelton secured the third position. With Big Star (Quick Star x Nimmerdor) Skelton finished clear in this 1m60 competition.
The top five was completed by Richard Spooner and Cirstallo (s. Caretino) while the Belgian show jumper François Mathy Jr. ended in the fifth place with his own 10-year-old Polinska Des Isles (s. Diamant de Semilly). After the first round only four out of the 48 starters were clear.
