This afternoons Grand Prix of the Global Champions Tour in Rome has be canceled due to heavy rain and thunderstorms. The bad weather that hit the capitol of Italy today was even worse then expected and came sort off "out no where". Only four riders made it in to the ring with Jos Verlooy and Gianni Govoni keeping it cool and riding a smooth clear round. Kamal Abdullah Bahamdan and his Delphi were less lucky, the pair finished their first round on 20 penalty points. Emilio Bicocchi also hit down two poles and has a total of eight penalty points now. Marco Danese, Sporting Director LGCT: “Welfare of the horses and riders is, and always has been, the top priority of the Longines Global Champions Tour, which is why the decision to postpone the Grand Prix until Sunday was made today. The continued threat of lightning and heavy thunder meant that conditions would be too dangerous to continue, and therefore the joint decision was made in agreement with organisers and participants. “The event remains free to the public to attend, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back for another spectacular Grand Prix tomorrow morning.” The Grand Prix will not be restarted today! But the organizers have reprogrammed everything to fit it in early tomorrow morning at 9:00 am.
