The race for the 2014 Longines Global Champions Tour crown is set to sparkle in Cannes with the world’s equine stars taking centre stage. Only weeks ago, Hollywood superstars were in the spotlight in the glamorous French Riviera town, but this weekend top international riders and horses are on parade.
In a world-class set of CSI5* competitions, Ludger Beerbaum heads up a formidable field of German riders with Chaman and Chiara, and Marcus Ehning returns hoping to repeat his Cannes victory of last year on Plot Blue. LGCT Championship Leader Edwina Tops-Alexander (AUS) will be in contention on Ego Van Orti and Questina, while fan-favourite Rolf-Goran Bengtsson (SWE) will be focused on another podium position with Casall ASK and Unita ready for action.
Britain’s Scott Brash is competing on his Olympic Gold medal star Hello Sanctos. Brits Ben Maher and Michael Whitaker and USA riders Laura Kraut, Jessica Springsteen and Reed Kessler will be determined to make a mark in Cannes. Pénélope Leprevost, Kevin Staut, Roger-Yves Bost and Patrice Delaveau will throw down the gauntlet in their home nation.
Cannes would not be complete without a sprinkle of celebrity stardust. In the amateur competitions each day actor Guillaume Canet, husband of film star Marion Cotillard, will be delighting the crowds once again as will actress Marina Hands and style icon Charlotte Casiraghi.
Fashion-conscious fans of show jumping will pack the chic VIP lodges for three great evenings of top equestrian sport with ringside views of the competitions. Watch the LGCT Grand Prix of Cannes live this Saturday from 6.45pm local time on GCT TV, ClassHorseTV and Equidia Life, on beINSports 3 from 8.45pm and on Eurosport from 9.45pm local time.
