During the opening day of the prestigious Jumping International in Dinard, the CSI5* 1.45m Special Two Phases was an exciting showdown on the grass of the Breton competition. Swiss top rider Steve Guerdat ultimately took home the win.
Riding the eleven-year-old Looping Luna (Lord Fauntleroy), he delivered a faultless performance in the second phase, clocking a time of 35.45 seconds. This secured him a narrow lead over home rider Roger-Yves Bost, who finished second with Embassy du Château (Jarnac) in 35.81 seconds.
“I'm very happy with my mare, said Guerdat who is a true lover of Dinard. It was a good opening course and a good start to the competition. Looping is quite fast by nature, so I didn't need to take too many risks or ask her to make a big effort. It's a track where you have to constantly adapt, and she did that very well. Honestly, it wasn't the best race we've ever had, but she fought hard alongside me. The conditions for competing here are truly ideal. From day one, the crowds turn out in force, which is quite unique."
Third place went to the newly crowned European Champion Richard Vogel with Cubi Cubells (Comme il Faut), who completed his clear round in 35.94 seconds. Just off the podium was top Belgian rider Pieter Devos. Aboard the ten-year-old Jarina J (Cicero Z van Paemel), he posted a flawless round in 37.69 seconds. Fellow Belgian Jérôme Guéry followed in fifth place, guiding Gigolo' di Villagana (Ballantine di Villagana) to a clear round in 38.19 seconds.
In addition to Devos and Guéry’s top-five finishes, Nathan Budd also placed in the money with Touardo Blue Z (Toulon), though a single time fault relegated him to 20th place with a time of 42.88 seconds.
